The giving tree poetry5/30/2023 In Shel Silverstein’s poem, The Giving Tree, the main character (the boy) expresses selfish and unselfish love for a tree, respectively. As a preparation for teaching kids all over the world how much their mothers do for them, it could be used to demonstrate the amount of time they put in for their mothers. On the surface, it appears to be a story that is intended for children’s parents to read to them before they go to bed, but the poems and stories are more than just that. The Giving Tree is a story about a boy and a tree that is told through a series of parables. This is a good example of a narrative poem. This story of a young boy who grew up loving and being loved by a tree is told in Shel Silverstein’s novel. This poem’s purpose is to tell a story, and it falls into the category of narrative poem.

Let me tell you what i mean didion5/30/2023 I may have other interests: I am “interested”, for example, in marine biology, but I don’t flatter myself that you would come out to hear me talk about it. I can bring you no reports from any other front. Like many writers I have only this one “subject,” this one “area”: the act of writing. I stole the title not only because the words sounded right but because they seemed to sum up, in a no-nonsense way, all I have to tell you. You can disguise its aggressiveness all you want with veils of subordinate clauses and qualifiers and tentative subjunctives, with ellipses and evasions – with the whole manner of intimating rather than claiming, of alluding rather than stating – but there’s no getting around the fact that setting words on paper is the tactic of a secret bully, an invasion, an imposition of the writer’s sensibility on the reader’s most private space. In many ways, writing is the act of saying I, of imposing oneself upon other people, of saying listen to me, see it my way, change your mind. There you have three short unambiguous words that share a sound, and the sound they share is this: One reason I stole it was that I like the sound of the words: Why I Write. Of course I stole the title for this talk, from George Orwell.

I didn’t eat breakfast, either, although my parents thought I did. I used to love Isaac and I bought a Lacey14 gray hoodie. I try to recite the lines and act the scenes out just for fun. Hooray!!! However, my mom said she would be ashamed of me and forbad me to do it. So that I don’t need to wash my hair anymore. After reading this book, I figure that maybe secrets aren’t such a big deal. Everyone has secrets, little secrets or even darkest secrets. The idea of the story was just so interesting. This time, I picked up another chick-lit to see if I was really into Sophie’s works. To my opinion, it’s sweet but not funny as Sophie’s chick-lit. One is Finding Audrey, and the other is I’ve Got Your Number. What’s worse? He remembered every secret Emma shared with him. Genres: contemporary, chick-lit, romance, sit-comĮmma thought she was gonna die on that plane, so she spilt all her secrets to a complete stranger sitting next to her. At least, she thought he was a stranger… (From: Goodreads) …until she spills them all to a stranger on a plane. …Secrets she wouldn’t share with anyone in the world:Ĩ. It was me who jammed the copier that time. When Artemis really annoys me, I feed her plant orange juice. I’ve always thought Connor looks a bit like Ken. I lost my virginity in the spare bedroom to Danny Nussbaum while Mum and Dad were downstairs watching Ben Hur.Ģ.

Modigliani doris krystof5/30/2023 Although most renowned for his nude females, he applied similar stylistic techniques to portraits of male artistic contemporaries such as Pablo Picasso, Jean Cocteau, and Cha m Soutine. Modigliani's unique figuration corresponded to his own personal idea of beauty, but drew upon a rich variety of visual influences, including contemporary Cubism, African carvings, Cambodian sculptures, and 13th-century painting from his native Italy. His languid female subjects are as instantly recognizable as they are startling, sensual, and swan-necked. In endless odes to the female form, Amedeo Modigliani (1884-1920) traced elongated bodies, almond eyes, and his own name into art history.

Body Drama by Nancy Amanda Redd5/29/2023 While the incoming American president lifted the global gag rule against abortion and signed the Lilly Ledbetter Equal Pay Act, he also bartered away Medicare support for women’s reproductive health. Conditions are far from universally improved around the world. However, these “firsts” must still be seen in context. Fahmida Mirza became the first female Speaker of Pakistan’s National Assembly, while Quentin Bryce became Australia’s first female Governor-General. Peggy Whitson became the first female commander of the International Space Station, while Lieutenant General Ann Dunwoody became the first United States female four-star general. In the larger world, Dara Torres became the first woman over 40 to swim in the Olympics, while Eri Yoshida became Japan’s first female professional baseball player. Women in the United States garnered a series of firsts: the first female governor of North Carolina, the first Democratic female presidential candidate, and the greatest number of women Senators in the U.S. The year 2008 was a watershed year for women across the globe. We are part of the Feminist Task Force of the Social Responsibilities Round Table of the American Library Association. Since 2002, the Amelia Bloomer Project has created an annual booklist of the best feminist books for young readers, ages birth through 18.
